By selecting the appropriate wavelength or filter, your physician or skin care specialist will be able to treat a broad range of skin conditions caused by skin aging and sun exposure. Your skin will be smoother, more vibrant and it will have a more youthful appearance as a result.

How does BBL work?

The light energy delivered by the BBL will gently heat up the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your skin cells to generate new collagen. This will help restore your skin to its natural beauty, blending its natural colors and making it smoother, vibrant and younger looking. In addition the photothermal energy will target and eliminate many of the fine vessels that cause redness and the unwanted melanin responsible for pigmented lesions.

What areas can be treated?

Any area of your body can be treated. The most common areas are those most exposed to the damaging effects of sun light. The most popular treatments are for the face, neck, back of the hands, chest and shoulders.

How many treatments will I need?

From 2 to 5 treatments, at 2-4 weeks intervals will produce the desired results. You may benefit from additional treatments depending on the severity of your condition.

How long will it take to recover?

This is a non-invasive and gentle procedure with virtually no down-time. In most cases you will be able to return to work, apply makeup, and resume most of your activities right away.

What should I expect after the treatment?

You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented lesions you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine wrinkles and pores will be less noticeable, and sun spots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments, and the area treated. Your physician or skin care specialist will provide you with complete information about the post treatment care and results.

Will it be uncomfortable?

The procedure is gentle, non-invasive, and safe. There will be minimal discomfort, however this varies from patient to patient and depends on the depth of the treatment. There is no need for topical anesthesia; however, your skin care specialist will recommend the best options during consultation.

What will happen during the procedure?

Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. You may briefly feel a rubber band snap or warm sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half and hour depending on the size of the area to be treated and the type of the procedure performed. Your skin care specialist or physician will discuss all of your options with you.

What aftercare do I need?

It is important to follow your physician’s instructions. You may be given some skin care products and instructions on how to use them. These will minimize your risk of inflammation or redness and ensure the shortest healing time. You will be sensitive to ultra-violet light and you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed. Fully cover your skin or use a good sun block whenever you go outdoors.

Laser Hair Removal

Our Medical Spa has the unique advantage of offering hair removal treatments with two different lasers, GentleLase and Sciton. We will evaluate your skin type, the area to be treated and your lifestyle and select the right laser for you.

What is laser hair removal? How does it work?

Laser hair removal offers patients a safe, fast, and effective alternative for dealing with unwanted hair. Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by its target, in this case, hair. The laser used in hair removal targets the melanin (color) in the hair follicle, damaging the follicle and removing the hair. Laser hair removal is safe enough to be used on all body parts, including the face, back, underarms, bikini line, legs, and arms.

Can all skin colors be treated?

Yes, all skin types I thorough VI can be treated. Skin Type I is very fair, always burns, and never tans (usually blonde hair and blue eyes). Skin Type VI never burns (dark skin, dark hair and eyes).

Can tanned skin be treated?

Tanned skin can be treated safely, but always inform your physician or skin care specialist if you have been tanning, using tanning products, or exposed to the sun within the last three weeks. Your treatment will be adjusted accordingly to give you the safest, most effective experience.

Can ingrown hair be treated?

Laser hair removal is the treatment of choice for people who experience ingrown hair or acne-like symptoms following shaving.

Does the treatment hurt? What can I expect with the procedure?

Most patients describe laser hair removal as feeling "prickly," or like the light snap of a rubber band against the skin. Afterwards, it might feel like a bad sunburn. Each patient has his or her own level of skin sensitivity and pain threshold. Different areas on the body are also more sensitive than others. On the day of your treatment, plan on wearing clothing that will allow easy access to the area being treated. You may not need any type of anesthesia for your treatments. Laser hair removal works best when the hair is one to two millimeters in length.

What should I expect after treatment?

Some redness and slight swelling may be present in the area that has been treated; however, this should subside within a few hours. If any prolonged redness or swelling occurs consult your physician. Keep the treated area clean, use at least SPF 30 Sunblock when outdoors, and follow physician instructions.

How long will it take my skin to heal?

Normally the skin just looks red and swollen for up to 48 hours, or possibly longer. Most patients will be offered a test area before undergoing a full treatment. This gives them a great idea of how the treatment will feel, and the length of time it will look red and swollen. Occasionally, patients can develop a blistering reaction. If this happens, call your treating physician and ask for specific post-laser treatment options.

Is treatment permanent?

On average, each laser treatment will be associated with some permanent hair loss. So in most cases hair removal can only be achieved after several treatments. The number of treatments will depend on each patient's individual response to laser surgery, and the amount of hair to be removed. Remember that the goal may not be total hair removal. Many patients are happy with a reasonable degree of hair reduction. Also remember that the hair that remains is often lighter in color and thinner than the original hair prior to laser surgery. As with other treatments for unwanted hair, there is no guarantee that laser hair removal treatment will be permanent.

How many treatments will I need?
